SCRANTON, PA — The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that on March 16, 2023, Brian Propst, age 51, of Greenfield Township, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani to a charge of tax evasion.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, Propst operates DKB Transportation, Inc., a bussing company that provides transportation for various school districts in Northeastern Pennsylvania.  From 2016 through 2019, DKB Transportation, Inc. employed a number of individuals approximately one-half of which Propst paid “under the table,” with no employment tax monies either withheld or accounting for and paid over to the IRS.

Propst agreed to cooperate fully with the IRS, and to pay all taxes owed together with interest and penalties as determined by the court.

This case was investigated by the Scranton Office of the IRS Criminal Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Todd K. Hinkley is prosecuting the case.

The combined maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is 5 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
