CHESTER, PAChester Water Authority (CWA) won the jury prize for Best Tasting Water in Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania American Water Works Association (PA AWWA). They were also awarded Best in Pennsylvania for the People’s Choice Taste Test competition. PA AWWA organizers noted that this may be the first time in the history of the competition that the same water provider won both the judge’s and people’s selection.

Noel Brandon, CWA Board President said, “As board president, I am incredibly proud of our team—our operators, engineers, distribution, maintenance, leadership and support staff as well as our board. This award is a celebration of all their hard work and commitment to our community and our ratepayers.”

CWA moves onto the National competition held on June 13th in Toronto, Canada. If CWA wins, they would be named the best tasting water in America.

Brandon continues, “It is well-established that CWA produces affordable, award-winning, and great-tasting water. It would be a tragic public utility loss and a significant financial impact for our ratepayers if CWA were to be hostilely taken over by or sold to a for-profit water company. It is high time that legislators and other elected officials stand up to Big Water and Repeal Act 12. The record four awards that CWA achieved from the PA AWWA in 2023 proves what a true gem CWA is for Chester and Delaware Counties.”

CWA was also awarded the Tear Drop Award for the 10 Year Phase IV Excellence Award Treatment Program for the Octoraro Treatment Plant maintaining Phase IV, the highest level attainable in the Partnership for Safe Water. CWA is one of only two systems in the entire state of Pennsylvania that have been able to achieve Phase IV. CWA was also awarded the PA AWWA 10-year President’s Award.
