PITTSBURGH, PA — David Straitiff, a former resident of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison after being convicted on twelve counts of child sexual exploitation. These charges included the production and attempted production of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor, as well as possession of such material. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

United States District Judge W. Scott Hardy imposed the sentence on Straitiff. Following his release from incarceration, Straitiff will be placed on supervised release for life.

According to court documents, Straitiff sexually assaulted four minors under his care, including the minor identified in the indictment as Minor A, over a ten-year period. The assaults began when the victims were as young as three years old. Notably, Straitiff recorded his sexual abuse of the minors and forced them to watch videos of the assaults, intending to coerce them into further abuse. Law enforcement officers recovered a thumb drive containing child sexual abuse material produced between 2010 and 2012 during a search of Straitiff’s residence.

In delivering the sentence, Judge Hardy described Straitiff’s crimes as “extremely disturbing” and indicative of “true depravity.” He noted the “disturbing betrayal of trust” demonstrated by Straitiff’s actions and acknowledged the “profound trauma” caused to the victims of his crimes.

Assistant United States Attorney Karen Gal-Or prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. United States Attorney Olshan commended Homeland Security Investigations – Pittsburgh and the Pennsylvania State Police for their roles in the investigation that led to Straitiff’s successful prosecution.
