HARRISBURG, PA — A former finance manager for Food Export USA, a Philadelphia-based non-profit organization, has been charged with the alleged theft of $180,000, as announced by Attorney General Michelle Henry.
Eric Kushner, 42, of Philadelphia, turned himself in on Tuesday. He faces felony charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. After his arraignment, Kushner was released on his own recognizance.
The investigation into the matter suggests that Kushner allegedly transferred small amounts from Food Export accounts into his personal accounts over a period spanning from March 2022 to May 2023.
“This money should have fueled this organization’s mission to help small farms and businesses — instead the defendant allegedly prioritized his own personal gain,” stated Attorney General Henry. “These charges should serve as a reminder that our office is committed to ensuring that money meant to further not-for-profit and charitable purposes is utilized appropriately, and not pocketed by individuals motivated by selfishness and greed.”
Food Export USA is a non-profit organization established in 1973. It serves as a cooperative effort between state agricultural promotion agencies and the United States Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service, aiming to facilitate trade between the United States and small-scale international food suppliers.
Deputy Attorney General Kayla Bolan of the Financial Crimes Section is prosecuting the case. It’s crucial to remember that all charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
