PITTSBURGH, PA — Donte Smith, a 44-year-old resident of Cleveland, Ohio, has been sentenced to 72 months in federal prison for his involvement in drug trafficking crimes. The announcement was made on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, by United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan.
Smith pleaded guilty before Chief United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak and received his sentence from the same judge. Smith’s crimes took place in New Castle, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, spanning from March 2020 to August 2021.
His offenses include conspiracy to distribute at least 40 grams of fentanyl, 50 grams of methamphetamine, 28 grams of cocaine base, and quantities of cocaine and heroin. Additionally, Smith pleaded guilty to the distribution of heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine base on October 30, 2020. He also admitted to possession with intent to distribute significant quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine base, and cocaine on August 12, 2021, and December 20, 2022.
Upon completion of his prison term, Smith has been ordered by Judge Hornak to serve four years of supervised release.
Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States. The investigation leading to Smith’s conviction and sentencing was conducted by the Lawrence County Drug Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the New Castle Police Department, the Shenango Police Department, and the Hickory Township Police Department.
