HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Education’s (PDE) Bureau of Postsecondary and Adult Education announced that $23 million is now available to support lifelong learning through the Adult Basic Education Direct Service grant competition.

“At PDE, we believe in equitable access to a high-quality education for all Pennsylvanians, and that extends to learners of all ages in all communities,” said Secretary of Education Dr. Noe Ortega. “With funding from the Adult Basic Education Direct Service grants, local programs provide adults in their communities with opportunities for lifelong learning to develop skills and create new pathways for success.”

Applications must be submitted by Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 2:00 PM.

The grants are awarded to local adult education programs to provide free adult education and literacy activities to help adults, including English language learners, improve their reading, writing, speaking, comprehension, and mathematics skills; earn a high school equivalency credential; and develop the knowledge and skills for employment and economic self-sufficiency.
