April 26 Coronavirus Update: 1,217 Cases and 82 Deaths in Chester County from COVID-19

Chester County health officials have today confirmed 43 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the countywide total to 1,217 cases and 82 deaths.(1) All people are either in isolation at home or being treated at the hospital.

In long term care facilities and personal care homes, there are 286 resident cases of COVID-19, and 32 cases among employees, at 26 of 75 distinct facilities in Chester County. Out of the total deaths from COVID-19 in the county, 66 have occurred in residents from long term care facilities or personal care facilities.(6)

There have been a total of 4,756 Chester County residents who tested negative for the COVID-19 virus to date.

Statewide Coronavirus (COVID-19) Cases(6)

Additionally, the Pennsylvania Department of Health officially confirmed the statewide total has reached 41,165 across all 67 counties, as of April 26, with a total of 1,550 deaths.

Statewide, there is a total of 157,428 patients who tested negative for the COVID-19 virus to date. Of the patients who have tested positive, based on statewide numbers, the age breakdown is as follows:3

  • Nearly 1% are aged 0-4;
  • Nearly 1% are aged 5-12;
  • 1% are aged 13-18;
  • 6% are aged 19-24;
  • 38% are aged 25-49;
  • 27% are aged 50-64; and
  • 26% are aged 65 or older.

Most of the patients hospitalized are aged 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older. There have been no pediatric deaths to date. More statewide data is available here.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 6813 resident cases of COVID-19, and 822 cases among employees, for a total of 7,635 at 431 distinct facilities in 40 counties. Out of our total deaths, 952 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

All non-life-sustaining businesses are ordered to be closed and schools are closed statewide through the remainder of the academic year.

Currently, the entire state is under a stay-at-home order. However, Governor Wolf has presented a plan for a targeted reopening of the state.

Health officials stress the role every person plays in helping to reduce the spread of COVID-19:

  • Stay home to avoid spreading COVID-19, especially if you are unwell.
  • If you must go out for a life-sustaining reason, please wear a mask.
