PAOLI, PA — Several local fire departments and emergency medical service providers have been awarded grants from Pennsylvania’s Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, announced state Rep. Melissa Shusterman.
The program is administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner and makes an annual grant program available to volunteer and career fire companies, emergency medical service providers and rescue squads.
The following local fire and EMS services were awarded grants:
- Paoli Fire Co. – $14,808 for fire services and $10,000 for EMS.
- Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Co. – $15,000 for fire services and $10,000 for EMS.
- Malvern Fire Co. – $10,000 for EMS.
- Radnor Fire Co. of Wayne – $15,000 for fire services and $10,000 for EMS.
- Newtown Square Fire Co. No. 1 – $15,000 for fire services.
- Berwyn Fire Co. & Ambulance – $15,000 for fire services and $8,400 for EMS.
- Goshen Fire Co. – $15,000 for fire services and $10,000 for EMS.
“These grants are a testament to our continued support of our first responders,” said Shusterman, D-Chester. “Investing in our emergency services provides us with safer communities. I would like to thank the Shapiro Administration for this funding that will get put to good use here in Chester County.”
Acting Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner Thomas Cook announced that more than $31 million was awarded to 2,336 applicants throughout the commonwealth.
Eligible projects in accordance with the program include facility upgrades, equipment purchases, debt reduction, training and certification, education and public outreach, and recruitment and retention efforts. Additionally, fire companies are permitted to apply for construction savings accounts for the purposes of new facility construction.
