PENNSYLVANIA — Governor Josh Shapiro this past week signed three bills – HB 295, HB 507, and SB 500 – into law, each addressing different areas of public concern.

House Bill 295 amends Title 3 (Agriculture) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes. The bill provides further regulations for registration, inspection fees, tonnage reports, and fund disposition in relation to soil and plant amendments. This law takes effect as Act No. 30 of 2023.

House Bill 507 is a significant addition to the Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error (Mcare) Act, which was enacted in March 2002. The bill introduces specific provisions for informed consent in pelvic, rectal, and prostate examinations. This new law aims to enhance patient rights and ensure transparency during medical procedures, taking effect as Act No. 31 of 2023.

Finally, Senate Bill 500 amends the Human Services Code of June 13, 1967. The bill provides for medical assistance coverage for pasteurized donor human milk, ensuring access to this vital resource for those in need. This law is now in effect as Act No. 32 of 2023.

These new laws are expected to bring about significant changes in their respective sectors, contributing to the betterment of Pennsylvania’s communities.
