WEST CHESTER, PA — A West Chester woman is the latest tourist to be attacked by a bison in Yellowstone, reports NBC10 Philadelphia. The 71-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was with her family on Wednesday when she was charged and gored by the animal. This is the third such attack this year.

Yellowstone officials say the woman’s injuries were not life-threatening and she was taken by ambulance to the West Park Hospital in Cody, Wyoming. The incident remains under investigation and park officials did not release more information about the encounter.

This is the second instance of a bison attack at Yellowstone this week, and the third this year. On Monday, a Colorado man was gored by a bull bison. The man was with family members at the time of the attack and did not immediately leave the area, as park staff members advise.

In all cases, the animals were near boardwalks or other areas where visitors are typically advised not to approach wildlife. Park officials are urging visitors to follow all posted warnings and to give wildlife plenty of space.

“We want people to come and visit the park and have a good experience, but we want them to be safe while they’re here,” said a Yellowstone spokesperson. “And part of being safe is giving wildlife the space that they need.”

If you do encounter a bison while in Yellowstone, officials say you should stay at least 25 yards away and give the animal plenty of space. For more information on safety in the park, you can visit Yellowstone’s website.
