Chester County DA Investigating Fatal Crash Involving Police Vehicle

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County District Attorney’s Office and the West Goshen Police Department announced they are investigating the earlier reported fatal crash where a bicyclist was struck and killed by a police vehicle in West Goshen Township on February 19, 2023. Michael Thomas Ghione, 75, of West Chester, was the individual killed.

Chester County DA Deb Ryan said, “This was a heartbreaking incident resulting in a tragic death. We send our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Ghione. We are conducting a thorough and comprehensive investigation of the crash. If anyone has any information about the case, please contact Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866.”

Authorities stated that on February 19, 2023, approximately at 10:16 a.m., West Goshen Police received information about a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist. After arriving at the scene, police discovered that the collision occurred when a police vehicle from the Westtown-East Goshen Police Department struck a bicyclist who was traveling north on South High Street in the area of the Route 202 overpass.

The East Goshen Police Department police vehicle was also traveling north on South High Street when the incident occurred. As a result of the crash, the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
