The Institutes Griffith Foundation Welcomes New Advisory Council Members

MALVERN, PAThe Institutes Griffith Foundation announced the two newest members of the Advisory Council, Charles M. Chamness and Jillian Froment, J.D. Both Chamness and Froment will help to advance Griffith’s mission to provide non-advocative, non-partisan education to public policy members.

Chamness served 18 years as president and CEO of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC). He also served as chair of NAMIC Insurance Company (a professional liability insurer), chair of the St Baldrick’s Foundation (the nation’s largest private funder of pediatric cancer research grants), and as a board member of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

In addition to The Institutes Griffith Foundation, Chamness serves as a senior advisor to Bain Capital and Sandbox Insurtech Ventures and serves on the boards of the Norfolk & Dedham Group, Holborn Corporation and WSRB. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, and received the Bicentennial Medal for Distinguished Service to the university in 2020.

Froment is executive vice president and general counsel at the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI). Froment also serves as an independent director for the Harford Mutual Insurance Group and has experience as a former Insurance Commissioner. As the head of the Ohio Department of Insurance, Froment established an Emerging Products Initiative designed to ensure the department’s regulatory framework allowed insurers to innovate while providing high levels of consumer protections.

Froment served as a member of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Executive Committee, chair of the NAIC Life Insurance and Annuities Committee, and as a member of its Property and Casualty Insurance Committee, and the Innovation and Technology Task Force. Additionally, she was a member of the Federal Advisory Council on Insurance and a steering committee member for the EU-US Insurance Dialogue Project. She also served two years as the chair of the Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Commission. Froment is a Certified NAMIC Mutual Director. She earned a juris doctorate degree from Capital University and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from The Ohio State University.
