Vishay Intertechnology Unveils Advanced Automotive Grade Inductor

Vishay Intertechnology

MALVERN, PAVishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announced the expansion of its IHLE® series with a second-generation Automotive Grade inductor, the IHLE-4040DDEW-5A. This new device, housed in a compact 10 mm by 10 mm 4040 case, offers improved shield design and polarity marking for enhanced electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance.

Traditional inductors often require separate board-level Faraday shielding to manage EMI. However, Vishay’s latest inductor integrates a tin-plated copper shield directly into the device. This innovation could lower costs and save board space by eliminating the need for additional shielding components. The built-in shield reduces radiated noise interference by up to 20 dB and further minimizes magnetic flux leakage, reducing crosstalk among nearby components.

The IHLE-4040DDEW-5A operates at high temperatures, up to +155 °C, and boasts improved voltage ratings, with operating and isolation voltages of 75 V and 100 V, respectively. These features make it suitable for energy storage in switch mode power supplies and an effective DC power line choke for noise attenuation.

This inductor is particularly optimized for automotive applications such as entertainment and navigation systems, LED drivers, and noise suppression for motors and domain control units. It meets AEC-Q200 qualifications, ensuring reliability in demanding environments.

Packaged with 100% lead-free materials, the IHLE-4040DDEW-5A is magnetically shielded with an iron alloy encapsulant, providing high resistance to thermal and mechanical shocks. Additionally, it complies with RoHS, is halogen-free, and adheres to Vishay’s Green standards, making it environmentally friendly.

The introduction of this advanced inductor delivers innovative solutions that address modern electronic challenges. By integrating effective EMI shielding within the inductor itself, Vishay is providing a more efficient and economical solution for managing electromagnetic interference in automotive and other noise-sensitive applications.
