10 Tips for Your Birthday, Bridal or Baby Shower:  by Celebrity Event Stylist Xavia McCollum

  1. Create a guest list and set a budget, then select a venue that is the right fit.
  2. Choose a theme and color scheme, and draw on it for invitations and event décor all the way through thank you notes.
  3. If friends or family offer to help, set boundaries and be clear (and kind) about what is helpful. Assign duties and a timeline.
  4. Favors can be fun, especially if you get creative. Plan ahead to order or make memorable ones.
  5. Consider hiring a professional to alleviate stress and let you enjoy your special day. You will save time and may even end up saving money because of efficiencies.
  6. Plan activities or entertainment that are age appropriate (for children, make sure you have adequate help to supervise).
  7. Gather guests’ special dietary needs in advance and plan accordingly.
  8. Music can make or break an event, whether it’s live or pre-recorded.  Choose a playlist and volume that’s right for the occasion.  Test it before your special day.
  9. If gifts will be opened, plan ahead for someone to record gifts and givers.
  10. Allow plenty of personal time to get dressed and arrive to greet guests so you can look great, have fun and enjoy the fruits of your planning!
