PAOLI, PA — Architetra p.c. , a leading architectural firm based in Paoli, PA, specializing in residential and commercial design has been named architect of record for the newly reopened Taphouse 23 (Bridgeport, Pa.) following the completion of their enclosed porch renovation. They are also the architect of record on the entire restaurant design project first completed in 2016.
Taphouse 23 owners selected Architetra to transform their existing outdoor patio for a more adaptable, all-year dining environment. There were several factors driving the need for the renovated enclosed patio. As Bridgeport’s most popular restaurant, more space was needed to meet the growing population of City residents and visitors. Additionally, the restaurant wanted to offer the community a space for special events, such as weddings, and live entertainment. Amidst COVID restrictions and limited seating capacity to meet social distancing requirements, patrons’ desire for more outdoor dining options, and the reassurance of a safe and comfortable environment, Taphouse 23 turned to Architetra to help them achieve the optimal permanent solution to adaptable design.
Joe Lombardi, co-owner of Architetra, said, “We were excited to partner with Taphouse 23 once again, this time to develop a future-proof outdoor patio design. Restaurants are looking for innovative ways to reimagine restaurant design and create spaces that offer flexibility and appeal to a variety of situations and patrons.”
According to a survey of U.S. consumers conducted by McKinsey, full-service restaurant operators need a new, long-term economic model including partial on-premises dining and an expansion of off-premises solutions.
Architetra helps restaurant operators transform their spaces for the future with flexible designs that offer more options for their patrons.
Taphouse 23’s expanded patio offers the proper social distancing to meet COVID requirements while also offering flexibility within the space to create either an indoor or outdoor dining depending on the weather.
Originally an open-air patio with a temporary aluminum-frame tent structure, the newly renovated enclosed patio offers a more permanent yet flexible solution. The tent structure was replaced with an exposed structure and aluminum frame roof that allows sunlight to filter through creating an outdoor, sky-lit space. The tent walls were replaced with a permanent, translucent, polycarbonate insulated wall system. Architetra also added commercial electric roll-up garage doors operated by remote control that can be closed or opened based on the weather.
Pavers from the original patio were replaced with large format porcelain tiles to provide a smoother floor surface and refined look. The new design also offers better noise reduction sound properties and supports the restaurant as an entertainment venue. The renovation also includes an efficient HVAC system. Gas-fired heat and electric AC is distributed by an efficient duct system for a temperature and humidity-controlled environment. Three boat-shaped fire pits each seat 10 people around, along with circular fire pits that can accommodate 8-10 people. A gas-fired oven is located on the patio so guests can enjoy hot, fresh pizzas made to order along with other appetizers.
Manager of Taphouse 23, Carol Van Zandt said, “With an increased dining demand due to the city’s revitalization efforts, our new outdoor space is the perfect destination for enjoying alfresco spring and summer weather but it’s also warm and toasty on cold days with the garage doors down and the fireplace and heaters running. It can either be a cozy or airy space, bringing us much needed versatility.”
As an award-winning local favorite, Taphouse 23 offers a large selection of craft beer along with a diverse menu of American cuisine of salads, burgers, wood-fired pizza and more. Reservations can be made online on Open Table. The taphouse’s operating hours are 11:30 a.m.- 12 a.m. on weekends and 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m. on weekdays. Sports games are broadcasted on televisions along with the occasional acoustic entertainment from local artists.
