PAOLI, PA – Local Attorney and Tredyffrin Township Supervisor, Matt Holt, this week announced his run for Judge on the Chester County Court of Common Pleas.

“Now more than ever, our court system plays a vital role in protecting our basic freedoms and liberties,” Holt said. “I look forward to bringing my diverse legal experience and background as an elected public servant to the Courthouse and ensuring equal access to justice for all.”

Holt started his career with Philadelphia-based, national law firm, Fox Rothschild LLP, specializing as a civil litigator and family law attorney. Mr. Holt is currently Senior Counsel at WSFS Bank where he leads the legal team for the Bryn Mawr Trust wealth management division.

“Orphans’ Court is a particular passion of mine,” Holt said. “In my current role, I counsel the bank in a wide range of litigation matters with an emphasis on fiduciary matters including special needs and personal trusts, guardianships and estates.”

A Chester County native, Holt grew up in Phoenixville before graduating from Georgetown University and Penn State Dickinson School of Law.

Outside of his career as an attorney, Holt serves his community on the Tredyffrin Township Board of Supervisors, being elected twice to the position. He has served in a variety of positions with the Board including on the Financial Committee, Personnel Committee and as liaison to the Tredyffrin Zoning Hearing Board and the Tredyffrin Municipal Authority.

“During my 5 years on the Board, Tredyffrin Township has been able to lead with forward-thinking solutions to improve local services, assist first responders, and enact smart growth initiatives.”

Holt volunteers on the Board of Community Volunteers in Medicine, a West Chester-based organization providing free healthcare services to uninsured, lower-income residents. He also serves as a Board member on the Tredyffrin Township Libraries Foundation.

“From commercial disputes to divorce proceedings, common pleas judges can face a wide range of different cases,” Holt said. “I will bring a variety of legal, government, corporate, and non-profit experience, allowing me to handle any case that comes before the court.”

Holt has been married to his wife of 11 years Lauren, who is also a local attorney. Together they have two children, Truman and Quincy.

“The last line of defense for our country’s freedoms is the rule of law,” Holt added. “As a father to two young boys and community leader, I want to be sure that our fundamental values are protected for them and all Chester County families.”

Joining the campaign as co-chairs are Julie E. Manser and Fran Miller, attorneys at the Miller Law firm in West Chester. Georgee Thevervelil, a Wayne, PA attorney, will serve as the campaign’s treasurer.

Court of Common Pleas judges are elected to 10-year terms after which they may face a retention vote. Judges in Pennsylvania have a mandatory retirement age of 75.

The primary election is scheduled for May 16, 2023, with the general election to be held on November 7th, 2023.
