The holidays are right around the corner and the fall season is coming in quickly.  During this time of family, gratitude and giving, you might be interested in learning about day trips that are practically right around the corner.

As you know, the holiday season puts people in a more family-oriented state of mind.  As a result, day trips aren’t uncommon for families to take during the colder months.  Now we know that Chester County is chock full of fabulous restaurants and you might not really want to leave.  However, sometimes it’s nice to venture out a bit.

Here are our favorite places to visit that aren’t too far from home.

1. Philadelphia

 Philadelphia is an obvious one, indeed.  But many people don’t think to hop in the car and take the short hour and fifteen-minute drive to one of our favorite nearby cities.

There are so many family-oriented things you can do in Philly too.  You can stop at one of the city’s popular parks or visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art.  If you want a taste of history, you can see one of Philadelphia’s historic sites or visit the Museum of the American Revolution.

2. Gettysburg National Military Park

If your taste is in history, you can visit Gettysburg National Military Park and visit one of most historical sites in history.   If you didn’t already know, the Battle of Gettysburg was a monumental battle during the Civil War.

Visiting Gettysburg is an experience in itself.  There are many programs and historical sites within the city itself.  And fall is a perfect time to visit.  Between the hazy morning fog and colorful foliage, your trip to Gettysburg is sure to be a success.

3. New York City

New York City is not as far as you would think and it makes a special daytrip if you head out early in the morning.  There are many attractions in NYC as well, depending on the time of year you visit.

During the winter you can visit Central Park and enjoy ice skating with the beautiful scenery of the city.  You can also enjoy the Rockettes and see their spectacular performance.  Rockefeller Center is also a prime destination for tourists and a place you’ll want to see.

Additionally, you can see Manhattan’s street vendors and shops and indulge yourself in something unique.  Manhattan Psychic is a great place to visit for a unique New York experience.  Here, you can have a psychic reading or even a chakra balancing session, which is something you’ll love to tell your friends about.

4. Washington DC

Just 2.5 hours away, Washington D.C. is a great place to visit, and full of things to do.  You can visit one of the many art museums, visit the National Mall in downtown Washington or visit the National Archives which is home to the Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, and The Bill of Rights.

In addition to all of this, you can visit many of the city’s spectacular restaurants and see the Washington Post building on Franklin Square.
