Kennett Square Episcopal Church Announces New Rector

KENNETT SQUARE, PA — The Episcopal Church of the Advent announced the call of The Reverend Timothy A. Johnson to serve as their new Rector. Rev. Johnson’s first service at Advent will be at 10:15 am on Sunday, November 20, 2022.

Rev. Johnson currently serves as rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in College Park, Maryland and as the Episcopal Chaplain at the University of Maryland.

“We are thrilled to be calling Rev. Johnson to Advent,” announced Stuart Davies, Senior Warden at Church of the Advent. “He is an entrepreneurial priest, a warm and joyful pastor, a spiritually grounded preacher and teacher, a change facilitator, and a strategic leader.”

Rev. Johnson follows the tenure of The Reverend Dr. Nancy T. Hauser who retired in December 2021, after sixteen years at Advent.

He previously served as rector of Christ Church, La Plata MD which was yolked with Christ Church Wayside. Prior to that, he served as Chaplain and religion teacher at Washington Episcopal School. Rev. Johnson earned his Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia and is currently working on his Doctor of Ministry in Liturgy and Preaching from Sewanee: The University in the South.

“I look forward to joining the Church of the Advent,” said Rev. Johnson. “I’ve enjoyed my interaction with members of their congregation, and I am very thankful for this opportunity that God has led me to.”

Rev. Johnson and his family will relocate to Kennett Square over the next several months. Advent welcomes all members of the community to attend Sunday services at 7:45, 9:00, or 10:15 a.m. each Sunday. Services are also streamed online and can be found on their YouTube and Facebook pages.
