HARRISBURG, PA — In a video entitled “Mean Tweets”, Governor Tom Wolf and Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman read a series of tweets including one that stated, “@JohnFetterman looks like a WWE heal who is managed by Tom Wolf”.
Happy #Festivus! @JohnFetterman joined me to read some of the grievances you’ve aired with us on Twitter.— Governor Tom Wolf (@GovernorTomWolf) December 23, 2019
We sat out the feats of strength this year because I didn’t want to embarrass John in front of the entire commonwealth. pic.twitter.com/zNChUQKG1Z
Festivus was originally a fictional holiday, created by author Daniel O’Keefe, which entered popular culture after it was made the focus of the 1997 Seinfeld episode “The Strike”. Today, Festivus is embraced by many as a secular holiday, celebrated on December 23, as an alternative to the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season.
As is the tradition, the “Airing of Grievances” takes place immediately after the Festivus dinner. In the Seinfeld episode, Frank Costanza began with the phrase, “I got a lotta problems with you people, and now you’re going to hear about it!” The custom consists of each person lashing out at others, and the world, about how they have been disappointed in the past year.
With great humor, Governor Tom Wolf and Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman today embraced this tradition by reading some grievances aired by Pennsylvanians. You can view their video on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
