DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas, Inc., in partnership with Downingtown-Thorndale Regional Chamber of Commerce, is planning the 2019 Downingtown Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in Log House Field on the evening of Saturday, November 30th at 6:00 pm.
All Downingtown residents are invited to celebrate with entertainment, refreshments and, of course, Santa. This community event is free and open to everyone.
Additionally, the 2019 Downingtown Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, December 14th at 3 PM. All local businesses, groups, and individuals are invited to participate in the parade and can either walk, ride in a vehicle, or put together a float. All entries must be decorated with a holiday/seasonal theme. For vehicles, this means more than just a wreath on the front grill.
Participants must be at the staging area by 2:00 pm with the exception of floats. Floats should arrive by 1:30 pm, but not before 1:00 pm, with judging promptly at 2:00 pm. The staging area will include the west side of Beaver Creek, all of Gable Avenue, Pennsylvania Avenue between Aston and Lloyd Avenues, Forrest Avenue and West Highland Avenue.
The Borough of Downingtown placed new restrictions based on traffic concerns. So, this year, the parade ends at Green Street and it should be no more than one hour in duration. The route is 1.5 miles long, starting at the top of Gable Avenue in the west end of town. Following Lancaster Avenue, it will travel to Green Street, turning left onto Green Street to disband with the exception of those vehicles that do not need to drop anyone off. Those vehicles will continue along Lancaster Avenue.
No tax dollars are used for the Tree Lighting event or the Christmas parade. So, organizers will appreciate any donations.
