Healthcare-Focused Podcast “Lighting Your Way” Back for 4th Season, Giving Patients a Nurse’s-Eye View of the Healthcare System

FLOURTOWN, PA — “Lighting Your Way,” a podcast that helps people navigate the complex healthcare system and receive the best care for themselves or their loved ones, has launched its fourth season.

This season’s first three episodes feature Betty Long, RN, MHA, Founder, CEO, and President of Guardian Nurses, speaking with Charlotte Jaroma, RN, BSN, Megan Swider, RN, and Chris McCarrick, RN. They are all employees of Guardian Nurses who were recently honored by The Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania, for their outstanding service in the community nursing field.

The podcast features real-life stories from nurse advocates who have helped patients through complex, complicated, unexpected, and long-term medical issues. Long provides tips and practical advice so that listeners can advocate for themselves. This season, Betty will speak with six new colleagues she met while volunteering at the Florence Nightingale Museum in London.

Past episodes still avaialble include a look at the causes of the nursing shortage, the state of nursing education, and a five-part series on the “Legends of Nursing.” The podcast launched in March 2021 as a natural outgrowth of Long’s business, which helps hundreds of thousands of patients in the United States through its innovative Patient Advocacy and Mobile Care Coordinator® Programs.

“We are teaching people about patient advocacy by giving them a glimpse into the stories of the people who know it best,” says Long. “We want to give them the tools they need to put the control back in their hands.”

Long started Guardian Nurses after guiding several elderly family members through the healthcare system, having wondered, “What happens to patients who don’t have a nurse in the family?”

The “Lighting Your Way” podcast’s name and logo were inspired by nurse pioneer Florence Nightingale, who is often depicted with a lantern in her hand and is often called the Lady With the Lamp. It is a fitting metaphor for the podcast’s mission, which is to help shed light on the mystery of the medical system to help people better understand how to get the best care for themselves and their loved ones.
