Four Local Restaurants Announce Menus as They Prepare for This Week’s “Chef’s Best” Cooking Competition

WEST CHESTER, PA — The four local restaurants who will compete in this Thursday’s Chef’s Best food competition benefitting ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester are revealing the menus they hope will make them champions.

2018 reigning champion Saloon 151 is preparing butter poached shrimp tostada with smoked pineapple purée, spicy pico and avocado/jalapeño crema. The chef will also offer hog wings in homemade bourbon barbeque with spicy kale slaw and hot honey drizzle.

Competitors include Ram’s Head Bar and Grill, which is preparing Asian pork taco with vegetarian and gluten-free options; Goose Creek Grill,  which is preparing a smoked duck sub and shrimp and avocado nacho; and Chadds Ford Tavern, which is preparing Asian ahi tuna seaweed salad, ginger soy glaze, wasabi crema, crispy wonton and a raw bar of top necks and oysters on the 1/2 shell, colossal shrimp cocktail with siracha cocktail sauce.

The public is invited to taste all of these and vote for the top dish at the 8th Annual Chef’s Best this Thursday March 28, 2019 at West Chester University Alumni and Foundation Center. Tickets are available at www.actinfaithgwc.org.

“We’re ready to crush it again this year,” says Saloon 151 chef Melissa Marino. Last year more than 250 supporters sampled specialties from Saloon 151, Bar Avalon, Mercato Ristorante and Bar and The Social: Southern Scratch Kitchen and Bar.

“Every year the chefs step up their game just a little bit more. It’s a win for the restaurants, and for ACT in Faith. We raised more than $25,000 for people in need in 2018,” says ACT in Faith Board President Denise Antonelli, who is also a partner at the law firm Gawthrop Greenwood, PC, the lead sponsor of Chef’s Best.

All proceeds support ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester, an interfaith organization that seeks to empower un- and under-employed West Chester residents to stabilize their households and build toward sustainability. Services include eviction and utility shut-off prevention, employment support services and a Community Cupboard, which provides personal care and household items as well as dry food goods and homemade frozen meals.

Chef’s Best lead sponsors include Gawthrop Greenwood, PC, Back Office Thinking, Better Than Bacon Comedy Improv, and Sun East Federal Credit Union & Charitable Foundation. Generous support is also provided by Brandywine Catering and other local businesses/organizations.

Tickets are $60 ($25 of which is tax deductible), and wine and beer is available for an additional contribution. To purchase tickets or become an individual or corporate sponsor, visit http://www.actinfaithgwc.org/, call 484-324-8492 or email contact@actinfaithwc.org
