IMMACULATA UNIVERSITY, PA — The Immaculata Symphony begins its season with an outdoor concert to take place on Sunday, Sept. 25 in the Gabriele Library Courtyard at 3 p.m. Rain location Alumnae Hall. The Immaculata Symphony is a university-community organization, with a long and outstanding tradition that goes back to the University’s founding in 1920.
This free concert titled, “Favorite Finales,” will feature the full orchestra playing timeless audience favorites. Musical selections include Finale from Symphony No.9, Op. 95 “New World” by Antonín Dvořák; Radetzky March, Op. 228 by Johann Strauss Sr.; Hut on Fowl’s Legs and the Great Gate of Kiev from “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Modest Mussorgsky; Berceuse Finale from “Firebird Suite” by Igor Stravinsky; and Finale from Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67 by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Music Director Joseph Gehring, M.M., will be directing the orchestra during the outdoor concert. Gehring is chair of the Music Department and director of Ensembles at Immaculata University. He was appointed music director of the Immaculata Symphony in 2011. He is also the conductor of the West Chester Band and Chesco Pops Orchestra and is a frequent guest conductor of various honor/festival bands and orchestras throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware.
There is no charge for the concert, however, a donation of $10 per person is suggested. Bring a blanket or chair for the open lawn space. Tickets for future concerts are available for sale on the day of the event and online at www.immaculatasymphony.org.
