Parkesburg Resident Writes Upcoming Children’s Book

uzie and the Icky, Yucky, Smelly Quest for a Kitten

PARKESBURG, PA — Mascot Books announces the release of Suzie and the Icky, Yucky, Smelly Quest for a Kitten written by Jacqui Maxwell, with illustrations by Nidhom.

Suzie’s birthday is coming up and she knows just what she wants: a kitten! Suzie is tired of playing with the cats around her neighborhood—she wants one of her own to spoil and love! But pets are a big responsibility, and Suzie’s parents issue an ultimatum: she must take out the icky, yucky, smelly garbage until her eighth birthday rolls around. Is Suzie up for the challenge?

In addition to entertaining children, Maxwell hopes Suzie and the Icky, Yucky, Smelly Quest for a Kitten will help children learn the responsibilities of owning a pet.

“Animals are a lot of work, and when they get older and the kids lose interest in them, the burden often falls on the parents to care for the animals,” Maxwell said. “I wrote this book both to talk about how important it is to be responsible for a pet, but also rewarding at the same time.”

Maxwell’s love for animals, coupled with her professional background as a child behavior specialist gave her the inspiration to write the book. Working with children for the past 12 years, she thought kids needed more books about responsibility and confidence.

“Through this book, I hope that a child will learn that they can do anything they put their mind to, and that responsibility is key in being successful,” Maxwell said.

Maxwell lives in Parkesburg, Pennsylvania, with her husband, two dogs, nine cats, and too many chickens, ducks, and too many turkeys to count.
