CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — SALT Performing Arts has announced its second annual local playwright production, 12 Chairs, by John O’Hara running January 13 – 15, 2023 at SALT’s Black Box Theatre in West Chester.

SALT’s 2023 Season blasts off with its second local playwright production, 12 Chairs, an original one-act play written by Skippack resident, John O’Hara. The drama is about mother-daughter relations throughout the years. In summary, Louise, the daughter, is cleaning out her mother’s house-represented by the ‘twelve chairs’ scattered about the set. As a silent mover moves the chairs off, Louise remembers the moments of their life together–the simple moments of tears, sorrow, and laughter that mark every parent and child. As the years go on (and the chairs disappear), Louise and her mother circle about each other and come back together. The final scene will make you reach for a tissue. We promise.

“We believe it is important to inspire local playwrights to put pen to paper when they have ideas,” expresses Lauren McComas, President and Artistic Director of SALT Performing Arts. “Each year, we will receive script submissions from local playwrights for SALT to produce their show and bring their stories to life. We are thrilled that our second annual Local Playwright Production will feature the play 12 Chairs by John O’Hara.”

John O’hara is a playwright, teacher, and recovering actor. Besides 12 Chairs, some of his plays include Treasure Island (DCP Players), Renewal, Pursued By A Bear,  and Vanishing Tess  (Playcrafters). His GOLDILOCKS.COM will be part of the Walnut Street Outreach in 2023. John has written over sixty plays and published seven scripts for young audiences with Playscripts Inc and SmithScripts UK. He is also a  proud member of the Dramatists Guild.
