WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester Area School District recently announced it has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. This year marks the fifth consecutive year the District has received the award.
Now in its 22nd year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
“I’m especially proud that the District received the award this year, given all of the obstacles our teachers and students have had to overcome because of the pandemic,” said Dr. Kristen Barnello, Supervisor of Fine Arts.
“The level of dedication, commitment, and creativity our teachers and students displayed to continue to make music during this difficult year is truly inspirational,” continued Dr. Barnello. “It’s wonderful to be a part of a district and community that cares so much about the arts.”
WCASD supports numerous performing ensembles in instrumental band, string orchestra, and chorus at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. There are seven district-wide “honors” ensembles for which students audition, rehearse, and perform at all three levels.
