POTTSTOWN, PA — Lily Ciechoski, Saya McLean, and Natalie Boucher, students at French Creek Elementary School and members of a local Girl Scout Troup, are working on earning a bronze award, the highest achievement for a Girl Scout Junior.
The scouts planned a Special Needs Spring Egg Hunt. They were inspired by a video that depicted a hunt that was accessible to everyone, including those who may use a wheelchair or other mobility tool.
The girls received thoughtful community donations of candy, eggs and money; and 422 Sportsplex had generously offered their facility to stage the hunt. Do to COVID-19, the event was postponed indefinitely, but the girls used their ingenuity to put the donations to good use.
Working with Owen J. Roberts School District and Chartwells Foodservice, plastic eggs stuffed with candy and toys will be distributed to families in need along with meals that are provided during this time. Saya, Lily and Natalie are so happy to bring joyful surprises to children in the district.
While the Egg Hunt planned for the special needs community was not physically able to happen, the scouts “hatched” the idea to donate the monetary contributions collected to The Arc of Chester County.
The Arc is a leading provider of services to those in the special needs community. The Arc’s mission to make the world more inclusive is exactly the intent of the scouts’ special project, and the girls are so thankful to those who supported their efforts to that end.
