IMMACULATA, PA — On Tuesday, December 3, Immaculata University welcomes Kyle Bryant to campus at 6 p.m. in Alumnae Hall Theater. Bryant is an Exton, Pennsylvania resident who is an author, athlete, motivational speaker and founder/director of rideAtaxia.
“Kyle Bryant’s inspirational story, courage and determination will challenge each of us to think differently as we face adversity in our lives,” says Angela Tekely, Ed.D., vice president for Academic Affairs and Provost at Immaculata.
As a teenager, Bryant was diagnosed with a rare, progressive neuromuscular disease, Friedreich’s ataxia (FA); there is no cure and no available medication. Not letting FA define him, Bryant began riding his recumbent tricycle across the United States while battling FA. He founded rideAtaxia, which has six locations nationwide that provide funds for Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance.
In 2015, a documentary chronicling Bryant’s journey across the U.S., The Ataxian, was released to critical acclaim and in 2019, his book Shifting into High Gear: One Man’s Grave Diagnosis and the Epic Bike Ride That Taught Him What Matters, was published. The book is an inspirational story that goes beyond patients suffering from a rare disease. It’s for anyone facing adversity.
