CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — A proclamation issued at the March Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting on March 22, designated April 3-9, 2022 as National Library Week in Chester County.
The 2022 theme for National Library Week is “Connect with Your Library,” which promotes the idea that libraries are places to get connected to technology by using broadband, computers, and other resources. Libraries also offer opportunities to connect with media, programs, ideas, and classes – in addition to books. Most importantly, libraries also connect communities to each other.
Chester County Library System Executive Director, Joseph Sherwood, accepted the proclamation from The Board of Commissioners President, Marian Moskowitz, which was also signed by Commissioners Josh Maxwell and Michelle Kichline.
Mr. Sherwood welcomed everyone to the Henrietta Hankin Branch of the Chester County Library, where the Commissioner’s meeting took place, and said, “it was great to see the library being used as a community space again.”
Libraries of all types continue to go above and beyond to keep their communities connected by expanding resources and embracing inclusion in their programming, resources, and collections. Libraries across the country are making a difference in people’s lives by providing electronic learning resources like online homework help and wi-fi access for students and workers who may lack internet access at home. Chester County Library System is supporting the community with services such as early literacy initiatives, engaging online and in-person programs for adults, teens, and youth as well as workforce development providing public access to technology, training, outreach partnerships, and small business resources.
“There are some exciting things happening across the Chester County Library System right now including Atglen Library moving into its new location, Kennett Library is in the midst of its new building project and Henrietta Hankin Branch Library just recently launched its new makerspace, funded by the Chester County Library Trust. We are also very happy to announce that our Summer Reading program is planning to be back in person and we know many parents are looking forward to it,” said Mr. Sherwood.
“We encourage all Chester County citizens to connect with their libraries, explore what is new and utilize the extensive resources available,” said Commissioner Moskowitz.
Mr. Sherwood also spoke of “the valued trustees, volunteers, and staff of the libraries of the Chester County Library System who work tirelessly to provide resources for the citizens and are community leaders who champion and promote library services, whether it be with community engagement, customer experience, or sustainability efforts.” He introduced Lisa Ionata who is a Library Trustee Board Member and Treasurer, Mary Gazdik who is the Library Director for Chester County Library and its Henrietta Hankin Branch, and Meghan Lynch who is the Branch Manager for Henrietta Hankin.
This National Library Week, the public can show their appreciation and support for libraries by visiting their library in person or online, following them on social media, and using the hashtag #NationalLibraryWeek.
