DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Downingtown Library Board of Directors announced today that an anonymous donor has issued a $25,000 challenge grant, giving $5,000 a year for a period of 5 years if the Library can secure $10,000 a year in pledges from the community for the next 5 years- the amount needed to fund a full-time Children’s Librarian.
The Board of Directors appeals to all Library supporters to sign a pledge as soon as possible, so that the Library can achieve this goal as quickly as possible. Pledges can be any amount- even as low as $100 per year will make a difference! Please visit www.downingtownlibrary.org for information about making your pledge.
“We are very grateful for an anonymous donor to invest in the Downingtown Library in a way that encourages others to continue, or perhaps initiate sustained giving. Requests for more children’s programming continue to grow exponentially- similarly, we have seen our program attendance, door counts, and circulation of children’s items skyrocket- illustrating how deeply our community values robust children’s services at their local library,” says Director Elizabeth Hess. She continues: “Expanding the Children’s Librarian to a full-time position would allow us to double our program offerings!”
Located in the Borough of Downingtown, next to Kerr Park, Downingtown Library is the heart of the community, in the center of Chester County. Downingtown Library Company is a 143-year old 501(C)3 nonprofit public library. Governmental contributions only provide 46% of the Library’s annual budget, with the balance of income coming from contributed sources like individual donations, foundations, corporations, grants, and special events. The Downingtown Library is a member of the Chester County Library System.
