WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Youth Orchestra (CCYO) will present its fall concert, “A Trip Around the World,” on Sunday, November 18 at 3:00 p.m. The concert will take place at Fugett Middle School located at 500 Ellis Lane in West Chester and will benefit the mission and work of Safe Harbor, a West Chester based non-profit group working to provide safe housing, food and encouragement to the homeless. In lieu of tickets, guests are asked to bring either a financial donation or a grocery store gift card to benefit Safe Harbor.
Under the direction of Mrs. Katrina Kelly and Mr. Mark Cellini, the orchestra will perform a diverse repertoire, with compositions including “Scheherazade” by Rimsky-Korsakov, “Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 (from the New World)” and “Sibelius’ Finlandia, Danzón No. 2” by Marquez.
CCYO is sponsored by the Chester County Intermediate Unit and provides an opportunity for students in grades 6-12 to experience the joy of making music with a full symphony orchestra and allows them to meet fellow musicians from school districts across Chester County. CCYO is dedicated to giving young musicians the chance to grow musically by performing challenging works from the standard orchestral literature, as well as music from the cinema and the Broadway stage. As members of the CCYO, students gain experience playing music of many different composers, styles and time periods.
CCYO is seeking musically talented students ages 11-18 years old. Audition dates for all instruments will be posted on the orchestra’s website. Additional concert and audition information can be found at www.ccyo.org. For those looking to financially partner with the orchestra, gifts of any amount are appreciated and can be sent to CCYO at P.O. Box 560, Downingtown, PA 19335.
