Chester County Intermediate Unit Offers New Programming for Adult Education

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) is offering new and exciting programs for adults who want to pursue new career opportunities. These programs will provide adult students with affordable and flexible ways to earn industry certifications, training and licenses. Students also have the opportunity to learn from industry experts and gain the skills necessary to grow in their careers.

The IT Security Analyst program is a six-month course that provides students with multiple industry certifications as well as college credits. In partnership with NuPaths and Harrisburg University (HU), this program strives to provide excellent career opportunities. Within this field, IT security analysts excel at detecting and resolving security threats. Monitoring networks and identifying cyber-attacks are skills that many businesses find invaluable. Almost 5,000 job openings exist for this position within a 25-mile radius of Chester County. For the cost of $7,000 in tuition, students can help to fill them, anticipating an average salary between $36,360-56,160 annually. This program is offered at the Technical College High School (TCHS) Brandywine Campus in Downingtown.

The Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program is a 150-hour course that provides students with the knowledge and skills to pass the CDL test and pursue commercial truck-driving positions. This course is available at the TCHS Pickering Campus in Phoenixville with a tuition cost of $5,115. Commercial drivers can expect an average annual salary of $56,280.

The Heavy Civil Technology program is available at the TCHS Pennock’s Bridge Campus in West Grove, and it prepares students to work on projects such as bridges and roads. Students learn about earthmoving, equipment safety, hand-tool skills and traffic regulations. This program’s tuition fee is $3,999 and the average annual salary of workers in this field is $49,050.

The HVAC program is available at the TCHS Brandywine Campus and teaches students how to complete maintenance on heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Other systems reviewed include oil burners, hot-air furnaces and heating stoves. EPA 608 certifications are available through the program. Employers in this industry are looking for new talent and this program assists adults in meeting the demand. Tuition for this course is $999 and those pursuing a career in this field can expect an average yearly salary of $53,430.

The Welding program is available at the TCHS Pickering and TCHS Pennock’s Bridge campuses. This program focuses on skills regarding MIG welding, SRICK welding and OXY-FUEL cutting. Adults who pursue a career in welding will work on hand welding, flame-cutting, hand soldering and brazing, filling holes and seams, and joining metal pieces. Tuition for this course is $1,955 and the average annual salary of welders is $43,840.
