DOWNINGTOWN, PA — On May 12, the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) recognized Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) Director of Operations, Paul “PK” Thompson, for his 20 years of support and service to the committee. Thompson is retiring from the Chester County Intermediate Unit after 36 years of service.

At May’s LEPC meeting, Michael Groover, deputy director for emergency management for Chester County Department of Emergency Services, presented Thompson with a certificate of appreciation for his work with the committee over the past several decades.

During the meeting, Groover recalled many of Thompson’s accomplishments over the course of his career, stating, “Paul was instrumental in establishing the Points of Dispensing (POD) program in Chester County; he paired up schools, the Department of Emergency Services and the Chester County Health Department to be able to deliver medical countermeasures in times of great need.”

In addition to the recognition from local organizations, Thompson’s colleagues at the CCIU acknowledged his achievements and the importance of his work over the length of his career. Joe Lubitsky, director of administrative services at the CCIU, has been Thompson’s supervisor for over 20 years and worked with him on several initiatives during that time. Lubitsky shared, “Over the course of his career, PK coordinated dozens of construction and renovation projects of all sizes and scopes of work. No task was too small, and he always provided timely and creative solutions to avoid potential problems.”

At the CCIU and in the community, Thompson has had a profound impact on those he served. Thousands of students, educators and community members benefitted from his expertise and commitment to customer service over the past 36 years. Thompson will retire from the Chester County Intermediate Unit on June 30.
