VALLEY FORGE, PA — The Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge National Historical Park has announced that it will honor the 21st Anniversary of 9/11 with a solemn remembrance service and tribute to Flight 93 Hero Louis J. Nacke II, who is laid to rest in the Chapel’s cemetery, on Sunday, September 11 at 9:30 AM.

Throughout the morning remembrance, which will be held at 9 AM (between the Chapel’s regular 8 AM and 10 AM services), the bourdon bell of the Washington Memorial National Carillon will toll six times to mark the attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, the collapse of the Twin Towers and the crash of Flight 93. Fr. Thompson, Rector of the Chapel, will offer a prayer for all first responders, for those who died in the attacks and for all whose lives were forever changed on that tragic day.

Following the service, there will be a procession to the grave of Louis J. Nacke II, one of the heroes of Flight 93, who is buried in the Chapel’s cemetery. Prayers will be said for the victims who died in the attacks, and specifically for the repose of the soul of Louis Nacke II and all who died on Flight 93.

The Chapel invites community members to come pray for those who lost their lives on that tragic day, and welcomes anyone from any faith. Firefighters, police and first responders, and active and retired military service men and women are encouraged to join the commemoration.

The Chapel will continue to honor the U.S. military throughout the year, starting with a special Veteran’s Day (also called Armistice Day) service on November 11 at 11 AM (service will begin with 11 tolls from the bourdon bell to commemorate Armistice Day).
