KENNETT SQUARE, PA — State Rep. Christina Sappey, D-Chester, is inviting residents of the 158th legislative district to join her from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22 to celebrate Earth Day at Stroud Water Research Center.
This free, family-friendly event includes a guided nature walk along the White Clay Creek and fun hands-on activities led by Stroud water experts. Light refreshments will be available to attendees.
The event will focus on how residents can use nature, such as the presence of specific animals and plants, to determine stream health and safeguard water sources from pollution.
One stream health measure that will be highlighted at the event is the use of riparian buffers, barriers alongside streams that filter pollution from stormwater runoff and mitigate flooding of homes and businesses by reinforcing stream banks. Sappey is a co-sponsor of legislation that would help keep waterways clean by protecting riparian buffers and has supported numerous grants to help fund local riparian buffer installations and maintenance.
“I am pleased to host this interactive event,” Sappey said. “This is a great opportunity to learn about local stream habitats and how to protect them. Getting an up-close look at the natural world around us helps underscore the need to actively care for our environment.”
