‘Battle of the Breweries’ Blood Drive Competition Returns to Phoenixville Sept. 30

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Seven Phoenixville craft establishments will face off to see who can recruit the most eligible blood donors during the second American Red Cross Battle of the Breweries blood drive competition.

The community is encouraged to donate blood on Monday, Sept. 30 from 2-7 p.m. in the Game Room at Root Down Brewing Company, 1 N. Main St., Phoenixville. Free parking is available behind the brewery, courtesy of Phoenix Village.

Presenting blood donors are invited to cast a vote for their favorite establishment. Participants include Bluebird Distilling, Conshohocken Brewing Company, Crowded Castle Brewing Company, Rebel Hill Brewing Company, Root Down Brewing Company, Sly Fox Brewing Company and Steel City Coffee House and Brewery.

All presenting donors will receive a free T-shirt, while supplies last, as well as a special incentive from the craft establishment for which they cast their vote. Offers and items are non-transferrable and are not redeemable for cash.

Appointments are strongly encouraged. To schedule an appointment, visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter sponsor code Battle of the Breweries or call 1-800-REDCROSS.

Now in its second year, Phoenixville Battle of the Breweries was the first blood drive of its kind on the East Coast and was only the second in the United States. In 2018, the drive collected 50 units of blood.

How to donate blood
Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.
