OXFORD, PA — At the Chester Water Authority (CWA) board meeting on November 17, 2022, the CWA board celebrated the life and service of the late Vice Chairperson, Paul Andriole of Oxford, PA. CWA provides quality, affordable water to over 200,000 people and businesses in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

The board was presented with a framed photograph of Andriole and a plaque. The photograph was used with permission and taken by Michelle Gustafson of the UK newspaper The Guardian in January 2022. It was taken only a few weeks before his passing and shows Andriole looking off with steely determination while on a tour of CWA’s Nottingham plant. The photographer not only captured his spirit, but also him doing something he deeply cared about—working hard to save CWA.

The plaque reads: Paul Andriole was a proud member of the CWA Board from 2012 to 2022.  He was a brave crusader for quality, affordable, public water. Paul was fiercely loyal to his community, and Pennsylvania’s most precious natural resource: water.

“Paul was resolute in saving CWA,” notes CWA Chairperson, Cynthia Leitzell. “He was unstoppable in his determination to save our public water. Paul was a shining example of what all board members should aspire to be. He was a tireless advocate for CWA, its ratepayers, its employees, the public and water. Paul always stood up for what was in the best interest of the ratepayers even when the best choice was not the easy choice. As a board, we are thankful to have known and worked with Paul. He is missed.”

Andriole was a strong member of the Oxford community. Kathryn Cloyd, Oxford Borough Council President, attended the CWA Board Meeting to honor Andriole. She was tearful as she recounted how much he meant to Oxford and her appreciation for the difference Andriole made to better the lives of his community members and fight for their water.

Andriole’s photo and plaque are now displayed prominently in the lobby of CWA’s Nottingham treatment plant as an ongoing tribute and gratitude for his service. His picture greets every visitor to the plant.
