New Garden Township to Receive $160K in Grants for Riparian Buffers, Open Space Preserves

NEW GARDEN, PA — State Rep. Christina Sappey, D-Chester, announced that $162,400 in two Department of Conservation and Natural Resources 2020 Community Conservation Partnerships Program grants have been approved for the acquisition of approximately 17.7 acres to be added to the Mill Race Preserve and the Chandler Woods Preserve in New Garden Township.

“In addition to increased open space, this grant funding will provide more parking and better access to trails in the area. This money comes at a time when we are seeing the use of our parks and open spaces increase 29% compared to last year, so these are welcome improvements,” Sappey said.

The $54,400 approved for Mill Race Preserve will expand existing township preserve space by 9.9 acres near the intersection of Auburn Road and Penn Green Road; the $108,000 approved for Chandler Woods Preserve will fund an expansion of 7.8 acres. Both projects include additional parking and riparian buffers.
