WAYNE, PA — Drishti Foundation, a Pennsylvania-based charity organization, is hosting a 5K or 1K run/walk at 9 AM on Sunday, Aug 28, in Wayne, Pennsylvania, to support blind children. The in-person event is open to all ages and includes a virtual section for people across the globe.
Started by high and middle schoolers, Drishti aims to support the blind and visually impaired in various ways, and instill the value of service in children and adults alike. Drishti’s motto is driven by Helen Keller’s words, “Because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.”
All proceeds from the August 28th event will go towards educational support for blind students including electronic equipment. The objective is to contribute towards education and make the blind economically independent.
Drishti has conducted fundraisers in the past for cataract surgeries for the poor, scholarships for the blind, braille kits for blind students, and medical care for visually impaired children. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation raised funds and sent medical equipment for impacted communities including schools for the handicapped.
In addition, Drishti volunteers have put in service hours for various causes including – teaching financially challenged children, teaching Braille, providing audio recordings of books and grocery flyers for the blind, and verbally guiding blind people. It has worked with organizations like Chester County Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Overbrook School for the Blind, Royer Greaves School for the blind, Sankara Eye Foundation, American Council for the Blind, Belaku Academy, and Children’s Eye Foundation as well.
