DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Communities that Care of Greater Downingtown (CTC) announced it is offering a new program to the local community, Parent to Parent: Peer Support Groups. CTC has worked with the Downingtown Area School District, private schools, and community partners to establish Parent to Parent peer support groups to serve K-12 families in the greater Downingtown community. There will be two elementary parent groups, one group for parents of 6th grade students, one middle school parent group, and one high school parent group.

Topics will include establishing family values and culture, building resilience, communication skills to increase the peace at home, and how to access resources for help. The groups will provide a safe space for parents to find peer support, advice and community, in addition to prevention education. Each group meeting will be guided by a licensed mental health and parenting professional. Through increasing education and awareness among parents on drug, alcohol, and mental health topics, plus providing a non-judgmental space for parents to access support, Parent to Parent will work to strengthen families in the greater Downingtown community and increase youth protective factors.
