CASA Youth Advocates Receives Two Grants and an Award Totaling $90,000

CASA Youth Advocates, serving Delaware and Chester counties, today announced it is the recipient of grants from The Philadelphia Foundation and the Chappell Culpeper Family Foundation, and a 2018 GSK IMPACT Award from GlaxoSmithKline.

The $25,000 advocacy grant from the Mary E. Seibert Kahl Foundation and the Edward M. Story Memorial Fund, which is in memory of his father, Samuel Story, and his mother, Mary Grosvenor, of The Philadelphia Foundation will support CASA’s advocacy for kids in Delaware and Chester counties’ foster care systems.

With a mission for “a world where all individuals have the opportunity to realize and optimize their capabilities,” the Chappell Culpeper Family Foundation is committed to creating the possibility for upward mobility so that more people can secure middle-class lives. It has given CASA a one-year grant of $25,000 to increase the number of children served in Chester County.

On Nov. 15, 2018, a ceremony at GlaxoSmithKline’s Philadelphia headquarters celebrated CASA Youth Advocates by presenting it with a 2018 GSK IMPACT Award for $40,000 for its efforts to improve community health. CASA volunteers and case supervisors make sure the abused and neglected children they serve receive adequate medical and dental care, participate in recommended therapeutic services, and that their medications and medical records follow them from placement to placement.

“This has been a momentous year for CASA, thanks in large part to the grants and awards we’ve received. It’s one thing to be recognized for our work with underserved children but it’s another to be awarded and given the opportunity to do even more. It’s with tremendous gratefulness that we accept these funds to help us continue making a footprint in Delaware and Chester counties,” says CASA Youth Advocates Executive Director Leigh Anne McKelvey.

Since 1992, CASA Youth Advocates has worked to ensure each child in Delaware and Chester counties’ child welfare system has a safe, permanent, and nurturing home. CASA of Delaware and Chester counties recruits and trains volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates to advise the courts on the best interests of an abused or neglected child with support and guidance from CASA’s professional staff of social workers and attorneys. In 2015, CASA expanded its services to Chester County children. For more information, visit www.delcocasa.org.
