Lewis Announces Grants to Benefit South Coatesville, East Fallowfield, and Caln

HARRISBURG, PA — Rep. Harry Lewis Jr. (R-Chester) announced that the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) approved three grants totaling $311,750 for a variety of projects in Chester County.

The first grant, in the amount of $127,250, will be used to rehabilitate the chlorine contact tank at the wastewater treatment plant located in South Coatesville Borough.

“This grant will help South Coatesville address what would have become a problem for residents at a fraction of the total project cost of $150,000,” Lewis said. “I’m pleased that it will reduce the impact on our area.”

In its second decade of service, the chlorine contact tank is beginning to show pitting, cracks and spalling. South Coatesville Borough will clean, patch and apply an epoxy coating to 6,000 square feet of concrete surface on the interior of the cross-baffled, rectangular chlorine contact tank.

The epoxy lining will provide a highly alkaline, permanently elastomeric coating that will protect the concrete against crack formation, spalling, deterioration of concrete and leakage while extending the life of the tank.

Because of the second grant, East Fallowfield Township will receive $125,000 to upgrade East Fallowfield Township Community Park by adding a prefabricated ADA-accessible concrete restroom facility with an on-lot disposal system and well water access for handwashing and drinking. It will also allow for playground equipment for children ages 2-5. The total project cost is $283,521.

The final grant, in the amount of $59,500, will enable Caln Township to install a three-prong bioretention system at Caln Park West to reduce sediment pollutant loads to the West Branch Brandywine Creek Watershed. A vegetated filter strip, bioswale and a raingarden will be installed at the soccer field. In total, the project will cost $70,000.

The CFA was established as an independent agency of the Commonwealth and holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
