Calling All Superheroes…Virtually! CASA Youth Advocates, Inc. Hosts Virtual Superhero 5K Run and Walk on April 26

MEDIA, PA — On Sunday, April 26, CASA Youth Advocates, Inc. serving Delaware and Chester counties will host a virtual 5K run/walk, encouraging participants to dress up as superheroes and run or walk around their neighborhoods to show their commitment to championing children in the counties’ child welfare systems. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.

“On what would have been our 5th annual Superhero 5K run/walk at Ridley Creek State Park, in light of COVID-19, we are asking supporters to share photos of themselves social distancing while running or walking around their neighborhoods to show their continued commitment to youth in our child welfare systems,” said Leigh Anne McKelvey, Executive Director, CASA Youth Advocates, Inc. “We’re excited to see photos and videos of our superheroes taking to the streets – every child needs a hero, but abused and neglected children need a superhero – and this is truer now than ever during this uncertain time.”

Formal registration is not required for the virtual 5K; however, donations are welcomed in lieu of registration fees. In hopes of providing a fun activity for families to partake in, the organization will also host a costume contest on its Facebook page, where participants will be able to view a shoutout from CBS 3 reporter Alecia Reid, the planned emcee for this year’s run. Runners and walkers can send their photos to CASA via Facebook Messenger. One winner will be chosen and be sent an award and spotlighted on CASA’s social media.

During this crisis, CASA is actively working to ensure the basic needs of children, families, and youth are met by providing gift cards for food, transportation, diapers, wipes, formula, cleaning products, and electronic devices for remote learning activities. The organization relies heavily on funds generated from its annual 5K and encourages donations to directly impact the work they do to provide critical services to those it serves.
